Reading about good writing is not writing

I just realized this today. It is obvious after I realized it.

Why did this happen?

Because I am also fond of reading!

I am reading a book called “Writing for Impact”. By Bill Birchard.

I am glad that I chanced on this book.

Let me tell you why.

I have been writing for a while. I have published a book. I have been an executive coach, and ideation facilitator, former Director of Ogilvy India, Chairman of Ogilvy One, India, President of Ogilvy Consulting, etc.

I am now in transition. To become a full-time writer, editor, and proofreader.

And I chanced on this book.

I have been taking copious notes on new things I have learned about writing. Seem so simple and obvious after I read the book but no one ever shared all this in such a simple, elegant, and persuasive way.

It has not changed my life, but it has certainly changed my perspective.

I am yet to complete reading the book. This piece here is like calling close friends to share an exciting discovery.

Hence this piece.

If you are not new to writing but want to become better you will love the book.

I am going to read it all over again and act on the suggestions in the book.
