What is a doctor pt. II

A doctor is not the one who heals and treats patients. It is the Lord who heals. An MD and hours of experience and studying makes a doctor, but does not make a healer.

[Luke 4] Jesus heals many. Those with various kinds of diseases, those blind or mute or crippled, He heals and fixes them completely. This is the power and sovereignty of the Lord over our bodies and our biology. Because He created our bodies and biology!

[Matthew 10:1] Jesus sends out the Twelve and they are given the power to heal. The Twelve were not the most educated in the time (which MDs arguably are in our age) and they definitely were not the physicians of their time. They were mere fisherman. With the authority of Jesus’s name, diseases were healed.

Same in Peter and Paul’s ministry!

[Leviticus 13] The priests in the OT in Moses’s time essentially diagnosed people of defiling skin diseases. They were given instruction from God on what symptoms mean what disease and which are unclean.

Obviously, not discrediting how the world of medicine works today. To be able to practice, I do need an MD and I would hope that I would have the knowledge at least to talk with the common lay person regarding their conditions. Just to say that, even as a doctor, I am a channel of God’s love. Doctors in our age believe in science and their knowledge alone to explain healing. And afterwards, they receive the glory and fame from this “helping of people”. In reality, any kind of healing comes from God. Would I be a doctor that truly recognizes and understands this and becomes a channel of God’s love through healing. Would I never take the glory of healing for myself, because it really isn’t in my power and knowledge. He is Jehovah-Rapha: The God that heals.
