Using a Hori USB Controller on macOS Mojave 10.14

It’s meant to be used with a Nintendo Switch, but I needed it for Mac. I wanted that GameCube shape and more importantly the USB 3 connector.

They only have Windows OS drivers, nothing for Mac users.

Of course I found out that writing software like this is not simple, especially for me because I haven’t written anything like it since college.

I’m happy that I fiddled with the NPM package though, because I found a little piece of information that pointed me to an eventual solution.

A method called getStringDescriptor in the Device class of usb showed me that the Horipad is actually an Xbox controller. So I had a hunch that maybe if I install an Xbox controller driver for Mac, I could use the Horipad with my laptop!

I installed it by following the Wizard provided by the .DMG file. Download it at the bottom of the page. Don’t install the driver on your Mac unless it is 10.14 or later, which you can see on the download page.
